Why Do Roaches Keep Coming Back After I Spray Them in My Spring Hill Home?

You spray them and they die. You think it is over. Then a week or two later you see another one. So you spray again. Same result. You have been doing this for months and you are starting to wonder if the spray is doing anything at all or if you are just temporarily inconveniencing them before they come right back.

The spray is working. It is just not solving the problem. Here is the difference.

What the Spray Actually Does and Does Not Do

Store bought roach spray kills the roaches it contacts directly. If you spray a roach it dies. If you spray a surface the residue on that surface may kill roaches that walk across it for a short time after application. That is the extent of what it does.

What it does not do is reach the roaches you are not seeing. For every roach running across your kitchen floor at night there are many more hiding inside your walls, behind your appliances, under your cabinets and in every other dark warm space in your kitchen that the spray never touches. Those roaches are completely unaffected. They stay hidden, they keep breeding and they keep sending new roaches out into your kitchen every night.

For American cockroaches the spray kills the visitors that came in from outside but does nothing about the gaps and entry points they are using to get in. Kill one that came through the gap around the drain pipe and another one uses the same gap the following night. The entry point is still open. The source is still there.

For German cockroaches spray actually makes the problem worse in many cases. Cockroach sprays have a repellent effect that causes German cockroaches to scatter away from treated areas and move deeper into the walls or into untreated rooms. You spray the kitchen and the roaches spread into the bathrooms and bedrooms. The population is the same size. It is just distributed differently and now harder to treat.

Why the Population Keeps Replenishing

Even when the spray kills every roach it contacts it does nothing about the egg cases already deposited throughout your kitchen. German cockroach egg cases are hidden in wall voids, glued to surfaces behind appliances and tucked into cracks where no spray ever reaches. Each egg case contains 30 to 40 eggs. Those eggs hatch on a cycle regardless of what is happening on the surface. Two weeks after you spray the adults and nymphs you can see a new generation hatches from the egg cases the spray never touched.

This is the cycle that makes roach problems feel endless when you are using store bought products. Kill the adults, eggs hatch, new adults emerge, repeat. Breaking that cycle requires treating the egg cases and the nesting areas directly which requires products and methods that are not available over the counter.

What Professional Treatment Does Differently

Professional German cockroach treatment uses gel baits applied directly in the areas where the colony is nesting. The bait works differently from spray. Roaches are attracted to it, they eat it and they carry it back to the colony where it spreads through contact to other roaches including ones deep inside the walls that never came into contact with any surface treatment. The entire colony gets eliminated including the ones you never saw.

Professional treatment also addresses the egg cases. Insect growth regulators used in professional treatments prevent eggs from developing into adult roaches which breaks the breeding cycle rather than just knocking back the current population.

For American cockroaches professional treatment addresses the exterior perimeter and seals the entry points so the source of the problem is eliminated rather than just treating the symptoms.

Call us and let’s stop this cycle for good. Our professional roach treatment in Spring Hill treats the colony not just the ones you can see so they stop showing up after every treatment.
